Aroma Coffee Shop was set up by Haxby and Wigginton Methodist Church in 2008 to provide a place in the heart of the community where people could come and meet and enjoy good quality food and drink as well as enjoying each other’s company.
The idea for Aroma grew out of our church vision of being a ‘Beacon’ in the local community. We want to show God’s love for all in a number of ways and we have used Aroma to highlight events that are happening in the life of the church as well as in the community. These have included:
• A Youth Café providing a safe environment for young people to chill out
• Events for parents whose children were making the transition from junior to secondary school
• A folk concert featuring the duo Fair Witness
• An evening with Jeremy Piercey, founder of Shared Earth (a leading provider of Fairtrade products)
Aroma is professionally managed by Sue Eason and her team, and we have a large team of volunteers who serve, clean, bake, manage the accounts, maintain the premises and help Sue to provide a place of welcome and of rest. Aroma couldn’t exist without these volunteers and we are very grateful to them and the staff for all that they do.
The finances of Aroma are carefully managed by a Management Group and Board of Directors. Any profit that is made in Aroma will go to improving the service offered to our customers as well as supporting local, national and international worthwhile causes.
We are confident that, with God’s help and support, Aroma will continue to shine as our ‘Beacon’ in the centre of our local community and provide a quality and professional service to all of our customers.
